Carus Connects with Students at Manufacturing and STEM Career Events

Many young people know their dream job from an early age, and for others career exploration is an exciting coming-of-age activity. At Carus, we believe it’s never too early to ask young students “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

We are committed to inspiring the next generation of manufacturers and STEM professionals. Our employees are passionate about connecting with students of all ages. This summer, two of our chemists hosted a STEM camp for local students ages 6, 7, and 8 years old. We also celebrated 20 years of Carus Summer Science Camp, a weeklong STEM camp for 6th grade students.

This past week, Carus focused on connecting with middle school and high school students. We participated in the annual Discover Manufacturing Expo at Illinois Valley Community College. The event served over 200 area high school students who began their day by visiting one of several local manufacturers for a guided tour. Carus hosted almost 50 students for a tour of the LaSalle manufacturing site, followed by an interactive Q&A session. Students had the opportunity to interact with Carus employees from several functions of the business including Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, Quality Control, EHSS, Human Resources, Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing, Communications, Customer Service, and more. Then, students headed to IVCC for additional presentations and career track sessions.

Also this past week, the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois hosted their annual Career Conference at the Museum of Science and Industry. The event boasted almost 1,000 high school students and over 1,200 middle school students over two days. Carus joined several other science and technology employers to exhibit and connect with visiting students. Carus employees Arnab Ghosh, Selene Hounsve, Akila Karunanayake, and Sarah Stroner hosted different demonstrations and experiments to spark students’ interest in science and technology. The Carus table included demonstrations of a non-Newtonian fluid, magnetic properties, and density, as well as fun giveaways for students to take home.

There are so many aspects of chemical manufacturing, and we were excited to show off the endless possibilities in our industry! An internship is a great step toward discovering your true passions. Learn more about the internship program at Carus.
