The following information is offered in accordance with California’s 2010 Transparency in Supply Chain Act, which requires retailers and manufacturers doing business in the state of California, and having gross worldwide sales in excess of $100 million, to disclose their efforts to eradicate slavery and human trafficking from their product supply chain. In support of the intentions of this act, and out of a desire to ensure entities within our supply chain remain free from slavery and human trafficking, Carus offers the following statements:
Internal Accountability
As part of Carus’ commitment to operating with integrity, complying with applicable laws and regulations, and protecting people and property, Carus promptly and thoroughly investigates any allegations of non-compliance with laws, regulations, or Carus policies. Carus’ Code of Ethical Conduct holds all employees accountable for adhering to the values and standards set forth by Carus. Violations of Carus’ Code of Ethical Conduct, or of any Carus policy, procedure, or contractual obligation, may result in disciplinary action, including termination of employment or contract.
Verification
Carus’ standard practice is to include in all commercial agreements a commitment from suppliers which verifies or warrants that they operate in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and government or industry guidelines and requirements in the country or countries in which they do business.
Certifications
Carus requires suppliers to certify their compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and government or industry guidelines and requirements in the country or countries in which they do business as part of their contract with Carus. Carus’ Supplier Code of Conduct, which is incorporated into Carus’ supplier contracts allows Carus to specifically require suppliers to certify that all products they provide us, and all materials that go into such products, comply with the laws regarding slavery and human trafficking in the countries in which they do business.
Audits
Carus regularly audits suppliers’ quality and performance to ensure compliance with our rigorous supplier standards. Audits are performed by Carus, and not a third party. Carus is evaluating methods for expanding audits to include compliance with suppliers’ standards for eradicating slavery and human trafficking from their supply chains.
Training
Carus’ regular employee training program includes compliance training, which addresses all employees’ obligations to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, government or industry guidelines and requirements, and all Carus policies.
