PFAS Immobilization Explained
PFAS are often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they can persist in the environment and move through soil into groundwater. Traditional treatment approaches often focus on removing, destroying, or disposing of contaminated material.
RemBind® Sorbents take a different approach.
Rather than destroying PFAS, RemBind Sorbents are designed to bind PFAS within the soil matrix, reducing the contaminants’ ability to leach, migrate, and spread to surrounding environments. This process is known as immobilization. RemBind products combine materials such as activated carbon, clay, and other engineered components to help lock contaminants in place and reduce their mobility.
When properly applied and mixed, immobilization can help support remediation strategies by reducing environmental risk, minimizing the need for excavation and transportation, and enabling more sustainable management of impacted materials.

What Are RemBind® Sorbents?
RemBind Sorbents are engineered remediation amendments designed to immobilize contaminants within soil and other solid materials. Once incorporated into the treatment matrix, contaminants become less mobile, reducing the potential for migration into groundwater and surrounding environments.
This immobilization approach can help property owners, consultants, contractors, and regulators manage contamination challenges while minimizing disruption, reducing transportation requirements, and supporting beneficial reuse opportunities when appropriate. RemBind technologies have been used to address a broad range of contaminants across industrial, military, airport, municipal, and commercial remediation projects.
