At Carus, protecting the environment is at the core of our mission. This April, we marked Earth Month with a variety of activities that supported sustainability, education, and community engagement — with efforts continuing into May. Here’s a look at how we came together to make a difference:
Table of Contents
Earth Month Kickoff
We began the month with an Earth Month Kickoff on Tuesday, April 1, celebrating with themed cookies and a drawing for two $25 gift cards to local stores specializing in plants and outdoor equipment. Throughout April, additional weekly drawings recognized team members, helping to build excitement around our Earth Month initiatives.
Employees who participated in cleanup and recycling events also received a specially designed Earth Month volunteer t-shirt, reinforcing our commitment to recognizing those who take action for a cleaner community.

LaSalle Plant Cleanup
On Earth Day, employees at our LaSalle manufacturing site participated in a sitewide cleanup. Volunteers worked not only across the plant grounds but also extended their efforts into wooded areas and around the South Lagoon. Their work helped protect the local environment and demonstrated the everyday actions that contribute to a cleaner, healthier community.

E-Waste and Scrap Metal Collection
As part of our Earth Month employee engagement efforts, Carus hosted a two-day E-Waste and Scrap Metal Collection event on April 23 and 24. Employees had the opportunity to responsibly recycle unused electronics and scrap materials.
Thanks to their efforts, we successfully recycled 9,380 pounds of scrap metal and 1,830 pounds of e-waste — helping to divert materials from landfills and supporting our sustainability goals.
World Book Day: Eco-Focused Reading Recommendations
In recognition of World Book Day on April 23, we shared eco-themed book recommendations for both children and adults. Encouraging environmental learning at all ages supports Carus’s belief that education plays an important role in building a more sustainable future.

Perfectly Flawed Foundation Earth Day Cleanup
Carus sponsored and participated in the Perfectly Flawed Foundation’s 9th Annual Earth Day Cleanup event along the I&M Canal in LaSalle. Volunteers spent the morning clearing trash from Lock 14 and its surroundings. The event also featured live music, vendors, raffles, and family activities, reinforcing the power of community partnerships in protecting local natural resources.
Waltham Elementary Educational Garden
Carus donated five raised garden beds to Waltham Elementary School’s Educational Garden this month. By supporting this project, we helped provide students with hands-on learning experiences about sustainability, science, and the importance of caring for the environment.
Eco Tip Tuesday and Eco Fact Friday
Throughout April, we shared Eco Tip Tuesday and Eco Fact Friday posts on our Facebook page. These posts provided practical tips and insights to help make sustainable choices part of everyday life.

Belmont, NC Plant Cleanup
On May 1, our Belmont, North Carolina team rolled up their sleeves for an Earth Day cleanup effort — and the results speak for themselves. From a car tire and bumper to three full headlight assemblies and a busted TV tube, the team cleared out a significant amount of debris from the surrounding area.
This initiative helped beautify the local environment while reinforcing the importance of continued stewardship. Cleanup efforts are still ongoing in the surrounding areas, reminding us that protecting the environment isn’t a one-day task — it’s a shared, continuous responsibility.
Continuing Our Commitment
Earth Month provides a dedicated time to reflect on environmental responsibility, but at Carus, our commitment doesn’t end when the calendar turns. Thank you to all the employees, partners, and community members who took part in our April and May efforts. Together, we’re helping to create cleaner, safer environments — and working to make every day Earth Day.
