Breathing Easier: CARULITE® 300 Catalyst’s Impact on Compressed Air Purity

June 12, 2025

The Hidden Danger in Compressed Air Systems

Compressed air is a critical component in countless industries, from firefighting to mining to manufacturing. But while it powers tools and protects lives, it can also pose a serious threat when contaminated by carbon monoxide (CO). CO is colorless, odorless, and toxic even at low concentrations. When compressed air systems are compromised, workers who rely on breathing masks, respirators, or escape hoods can be exposed to dangerous levels of CO—often without warning.

CARULITE® 300 Catalyst: A Reliable Safety Solution

CARULITE® 300 catalyst is a granular catalyst designed to destroy carbon monoxide in compressed breathing air and cryogenic purification systems. This manganese dioxide and copper oxide-based catalyst operates at ambient temperatures and requires no external energy source. It converts CO to carbon dioxide in dry air streams, providing a highly effective layer of protection in safety-critical environments.

How It Works

When air containing carbon monoxide passes through a properly designed filtration system filled with CARULITE® 300, the catalyst facilitates an oxidation reaction that converts the toxic carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, effectively removing the harmful contaminant from the air stream.

Key Applications for CARULITE ® 300 Catalyst

  • Mining operations requiring emergency escape hoods
  • Fire departments and emergency response teams using breathing apparatuses
  • Compressed air manufacturers and equipment suppliers
  • Cryogenic air purification systems
  • Aerospace and defense applications

In all these settings, reliable removal of carbon monoxide is essential to maintaining health and safety standards.

Real-World Impact and Safety Improvements

By removing carbon monoxide from compressed air, CARULITE® 300 catalyst supports efforts to prevent harmful exposure incidents and aids facilities in meeting OSHA and international air quality standards when integrated into a properly designed system. The catalyst is engineered for durability and consistent performance, which can help extend replacement intervals and support operational efficiency.

Protecting the people who power industry with clean, safe air isn’t optional—it’s essential. Whether you’re outfitting a breathing apparatus for emergency response or engineering a purification system, CARULITE® 300 catalyst delivers confidence in every breath.
