RemBind® Inject is an in-situ remediation solution designed to immobilize PFAS and other organic contaminants within impacted groundwater systems. Delivered directly into saturated subsurface zones using conventional injection methods, RemBind Inject helps reduce contaminant mobility while minimizing site disruption, excavation, and ongoing treatment requirements.

Groundwater Contamination Explained

Groundwater contamination can migrate far beyond the original source area, creating long-term environmental, regulatory, and liability challenges.

PFAS, petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated compounds, metals, and other contaminants can move through aquifers over time, potentially affecting groundwater resources, property redevelopment efforts, and remediation obligations. Traditional remediation approaches often involve pump-and-treat systems, excavation, disposal, or long-term management programs that can require significant infrastructure and operational expense.

RemBind Inject offers an alternative approach.

Instead of extracting contaminated groundwater for treatment, RemBind Inject is delivered directly into impacted zones where it binds contaminants and reduces their mobility. This immobilization approach can help limit contaminant migration while allowing groundwater to continue moving through the treatment area.

What Is RemBind® Inject?

RemBind Inject is a specialized injectable formulation engineered for use in contaminated groundwater environments.

The product is slurried with water and delivered into saturated subsurface media through direct-push drilling technologies and specialized injection equipment. Once placed within the treatment zone, RemBind Inject binds PFAS and other organic contaminants, reducing their mobility and helping prevent further migration.

How RemBind® Inject Works

Step 1: Site Assessment

Project teams evaluate existing groundwater data, boring logs, monitoring information, contaminant concentrations, and site conditions to develop an appropriate treatment approach.

Step 2: Design and Planning

Injection specialists develop a site-specific strategy to determine treatment areas, injection intervals, delivery methods, and reagent requirements.

Step 3: Reagent Delivery

RemBind Inject is mixed into a slurry and injected into the target treatment zone using direct-push drilling equipment and specialized pumps designed for controlled reagent emplacement.

Step 4: Immobilization and Monitoring

Once emplaced, the reagent binds contaminants within the saturated media, reducing mobility and supporting long-term contaminant management. Monitoring wells are then used to evaluate treatment effectiveness.

Proven Field Performance

A demonstration project conducted at a PFAS-impacted site adjacent to an international airport evaluated the use of RemBind Inject within contaminated groundwater. The treatment program involved injection of a RemBind slurry into a network of direct-push injection points covering a 128-square-meter treatment area.

Monitoring results showed:

  • 97% reduction in PFOS + PFHxS concentrations
  • 87% reduction in PFOA concentrations
  • No significant reduction in groundwater seepage velocity through the treatment zone
  • Temporary changes in field parameters that returned to background conditions following treatment

This project demonstrated that injected RemBind reagent could be effectively delivered into groundwater treatment zones while maintaining groundwater movement through the impacted area.
