Carus Embraces Holiday Spirit with Volunteerism

Carus employees have a long history of serving the community, and we take special pride in supporting our neighbors during the holiday season.

Carus launched the second annual Giving Fence in November. The fence is a novel way for neighbors to provide new and gently used winter clothing to those in need. Members of the community are invited to stop by the Giving Fence in front of the Carus headquarters building to donate or take items through the end of December.

The local business community has a tradition of hosting a food drive challenge on social media during the holidays. This year, Machinery Maintenance Inc. and American Nickeloid nominated Carus to fill a cart of groceries and essentials to benefit the Illinois Valley Food Pantry. We were proud to take part in this social media challenge, and continued the tradition by nominating two more businesses to participate in the fun.

Every year, Carus invites employees and retirees to bring a non-perishable food item to the holiday party. This year, we selected Illinois Valley PADS Shelter in Peru as our nonprofit recipient. Peru PADS is a 66-bed homeless shelter that provides shelter, meals and services to those in need. Thank you to all of our employees who generously donated to support this great cause.

Employees at our LaSalle manufacturing site have adopted a family through the Youth Service Bureau. Our team is collecting money and shopping for gifts to help this family during the holiday season. Employees at our Peru headquarters are also supporting Youth Service Bureau this year with a Giving Tree. Employees select an ornament from the tree and purchase gifts for a specific child in need. All items are donated to the Youth Service Bureau for distribution.

We’re proud to partner with the City of Peru Department of Parks, Recreation and Special Events. Carus employees volunteered to help wrap gifts for the annual Peru Light Up the Night Christmas Parade, and other Carus employees volunteered the night of the parade to help Santa hand out gifts to local children.

Carus is also a proud sponsor and supporter of the City of LaSalle  Celebration of Lights. We have a Carus light display in the exhibit, and our employees enjoy volunteering to greet visitors. This festive light show attracts visitors from all over! It’s great fun to participate as a volunteer or a visitor.

Carus was founded in LaSalle, Illinois over 100 years ago and we are proud to operate in the same community today.
