Carus is being honored among top industry leaders for safety performance, and innovations in sustainability. Carus was one of 10 companies recognized by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) with Waste Minimization, Reuse, and Recycling awards at the Council’s annual Responsible Care® conference. Carus also won a Facility Safety Award for the second consecutive year.
Carus was one of only three companies to be honored for multiple sustainability projects this year, earning awards for water reuse, and waste minimization.
In 2017, Carus’ LaSalle, IL manufacturing facility launched a water recycling project aimed at diverting water from waste streams for re-use in its manufacturing process. The project reduced water use by 30% at the facility.
“Recycling water at Carus also saves energy and other resources at a municipal level, as less volume is being pumped through our city’s water system,” said Nick Kelsey, Process Development Engineer at Carus.
Carus’ second award was for the creation of a sustainable product, TOTALOX®, generated by a reuse project to convert nitrate into an odor eliminator. The project significantly reduced plant emissions, while providing odor control solutions to the water industry.
“The ultimate win is knowing we can meet customer needs with a product that allows Carus to continuously increase the sustainability of our operations,” said Shelley Corban, Carus’ Responsible Care® Coordinator, who accepted the ACC award.
For exceptional safety performance, Carus’ Belmont, NC facility was recognized for the second straight year. The Belmont facility has entered its 20th year without an OSHA recordable incident.
A 102-year-old company, Carus produces and supplies specialty chemistries, technologies, and services for water treatment, soil remediation, and air purification. Carus is a member of the American Chemistry Council and actively participates in the industry’s award-winning Responsible Care® initiative, sharing a common commitment to improve environmental, health, safety, and security performance. 2018 marks 30 years of Responsible Care at ACC.
